Description |
Framed medal set (A-E) with a black and white photograph reproduction(F) mounted on red mat/foamboard. Rowland Williams served in the British Army as a member of The King's Own Royal Regiment in WW2. A) The 1939-1945 Star, which has a central design of the Royal and Imperial cypher, surmounted by a crown. The cypher is surrounded by a circlet containing the words ‘The 1939-45 Star’. The ribbon consists of three equal stripes: dark blue, red, and light blue (representing the Navy, Army and Air Force). B) The Africa Star, which is a six-pointed star with a central design of the Royal and Imperial cypher, surmounted by a crown. The cypher is surrounded by a circlet containing the words ‘The Africa Star’.The sand coloured buff ribbon has a central red stripe and two narrow stripes, dark blue at left and light blue at right. The colours represent the desert, Army, Navy, and Air Force. C) The Italy Star, which is a six–pointed star with a central design of the Royal and Imperial cypher, surmounted by a crown. The cypher is surrounded by a circlet containing the words ‘The Italy Star’.The ribbon consists of equal stripes of red, white, green, white, and red. The colours represent the colours of the Italian flag D) War Medal 1939-1945, which consists of seven coloured stripes: red, dark blue, white, narrow red, white, dark blue, and red. The obverse shows the crowned coinage effigy of King George VI, facing left, and the legend GEORGIVS VI D : BR : OMN : REX ET INDIAE IMP :. E) Territorial Efficiency Medal, which is a long service medal awarded for 12 years of service. The medal is an oval with the crowned effigy of King George VI facing left with the legend GEORGIVS VI D : G : BR : OMN : REX ET INDIAE IMP :. The ribbon is dark green with thin yellow edge stripes. A silver plate at the base of the ribbon reads TERRITORIAL. F) Black and white inkjet reproduction of a photograph of Rowland Williams in uniform. He is pictured wearing the lion cap and collar badges of The King's Own Royal Regiment. Williams served with the King's Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster) before immigrating to Canada in 1951. The regiment has since amalgamated with The Border Regiment to form The King's Own Royal Border Regiment. The medal set and photo were enclosed in a gold metal frame in 1999 by Framing & Art Centre in London, ON. |
