Brass Box Frame Belt Buckles, RCR |
Description |
Two regimental box frame belt buckles made of brass. This is a friction buckle used on webbed belts. The obverse is engraved with the Imperial Cypher (VRI), surmounted by the royal crown. The reverse of the buckles is engraved/stamped "SOLID BRASS / MADE IN U.S.A." Buckle A has an ornate representation of St. Edward's crown above the cypher. The "R" overlaps the top right of the "V" and (slightly) the lower left of the "I". The brass has a yellow undertone. Buckle B has far simpler representation of St. Edward's Crown (or possibly the Imperial Sate Crown) and non-overlapping letters in the cypher. The brass has a reddish undertone, likely from a treatment (electroplating?) to prevent tarnish. |
