A: Memorial Plaque (Obverse) The plaque shows Britannia bestowing a laurel crown on a rectangular tablet bearing the full name of the dead, 'WALTER ALVIN BENNETT,' in raised lettering. In front stands the British lion, with dolphins in the upper field, an oak branch lower right, and a lion cub clutching a fallen eagle in the exergue. The inscription round the circumference reads HE DIED FOR FREEDOM AND HONOVR. (Reverse) B: Letter from Buckingham Palace Embossed stationery card from Buckingham Palace, folded crosswise. Message printed inside the card with stamped signature of King George V. "I join with my grateful people / in sending you this memorial / of a brave life given for others / in the Great War." C: Envelope Pack Square case/packet with triangular flaps on top side. Made of heavy cardstock with dark green-brown paper exterior and natural/undyed pulp centre. |
