Title |
Composite Shooting Team, The Oxford Rifles, c.1930s |
Description |
A black and white print of the composite shooting team formed from mostly the Oxford Rifles in Woodstock in the early to mid-1930s. The photo has been mounted on a large tan-coloured cardboard mat with the photography studio logo debossed in the lower right corner. The image depicts 12 men arranged in two rows (5 men standing behind 7 men who are seated). The men are wearing service dress uniforms, possibly in rifle green, with piping around the sleeves, 7 buttons down the front, and forage cap. Some of the men are wearing leather cross belts in the custom of rifle regiments, with a whistle on a chain and an Oxford Rifles insignia plate. The man in the centre of the front row holds the chain to a wooden shield-shaped plaque that appears to be a shooting award. The men on either side of him are holding rifles. The man in the far left of the back row appears to be holding a bugle or horn, and his sleeves are capped with "wings" in the bandsman and bugler tradition. |
