An off-white envelope with a United Nations graphic on the left side. The graphic has the United Nations symbol, a blue circle with a white wreath surrounding a globe. On the edge of the circle are the the words, "IN THE SERVICE OF PEACE." In front of the symbol is a soldier in operational uniform wearing a blue united nations hat and badge. Under the image are the words "CANADIAN CONTINGENT / UNITED NATIONS FORCE / IN CYPRUS / MARCH 1964 - MARCH 1984". The envelope marks 20 years of the Cyprus peacekeeping mission, UNFICYP. On the right side is a Canadian Army Regiment stamp, a postage stamp issued to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the Militia Act allowing for Canada to form its own infantry. The stamp shows two soldiers. One is wearing the red uniform of the Royal Canadian Regiment and the other is wearing the blue uniform of the British Columbia Regiment. The top of the stamp says "REGIMENTS 1883/1983 RÉGIMENTS." The bottom of the stamp reads "CANADA 32", because each stamp is worth 32 cents. Overlapping the postage stamp is an ink stamp that is a circle of text reading, "CANADA POST POSTES CANADA CFPO 5001 BPFC." Inside the circle is an outline of Cyprus with the Canadian flag and the UN flag. Above the image is the text "1964-1984." Below the image is the date, "84 03 04". The envelope is in a gold metal frame with a painted green line and with a blue mat. There is a silver plaque on the glass reading, "LCOL WJ AITCHISON / 4 MAR 84". On the back of the frame is a blue sticker with Greek text. The frame has an orange cord for hanging. |
